Ms Yumi Takeuchi

 

Yumi Takeuchi is an Executive Committee Member of LAWASIA and a Member of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations (JFBA). She is a Partner at Kitoh & Takeuchi LPC in Nagoya, Japan, specializing in family law and dispute resolution procedures, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation.

Ms Takeuchi currently serves as the Chair of the Judicial System Research Board of the JFBA and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Family Law Legislation of the JFBA. She is also an Executive Director of the Japan Association of Arbitrators (and Chair of its Chubu Branch), Vice-Chair of the Dispute Adjustment Committee of the Aichi Labor Bureau, a Civil Conciliation Commissioner at the Nagoya District Court and Summary Court, and an Auditor at Nagoya City University.

She formerly served as Vice President of the Aichi Bar Association (2020), Governor of the JFBA (2020), Governor of the Chubu Federation of Bar Associations (2020), Chair of the Judicial System Research Committee of the Aichi Bar Association (2021–2025), and a Member of the Civil Code Subcommittee (Matters relating to adult guardianship, etc.) of the Legislative Council of the Ministry of Justice (2024–2026).

Admitted to the Bar in Japan in 2000, Ms Takeuchi holds an LL.B. from Kyoto University (1995). She serves as a mediator at the Japan International Mediation Center in Kyoto (JIMC Kyoto) and has co-authored several legal treatises, including practical guides on cross-border family law cases and practice under the amended Family Law in Japan.

An active contributor to LAWASIA, Ms Takeuchi was deeply involved in the Family Law & Family Rights Committee during the 30th LAWASIA Conference in Tokyo (2017), engaging in comparative research on cross-border child support calculation and enforcement. She serves as an organizing committee member for the 10th LAWASIA Family Law and Children's Rights Conference to be hosted in Nagoya in June 2027, and was elected to the LAWASIA Executive Committee for the 2026–2027 term.
