Mr. Dang is the Managing Member of the Law Offices of Marvin S.C. Dang, LLLC. Founded by him in 1981, the Hawaii law firm focuses on creditors’ rights law, lobbying, government relations, legislation, real estate transactions, estate planning, and probate. His firm's clients include global, national, and local financial institutions and lenders. Mr. Dang is a registered Hawaii lobbyist.

Since 2020, Mr. Dang has been a partner in Nelson & Kennard, LLP, a California law firm doing business in nearly a dozen states. He co-manages the Hawaii office, which focuses on civil litigation.

He was a Senior Vice President, Secretary, Director, and in-house Counsel of an FDIC-insured Hawaii financial institution for 11 years.

Mr. Dang is a former State Representative in the Hawaii State House of Representatives, where he served as an Assistant Minority Floor Leader.

A member of the American Bar Association (ABA) since 1975, when he was a law student, Marvin Dang has been elected to many leadership positions beginning in 1976. Starting in 1979, he has received appointments from ABA Presidents to various standing and special committees and commissions.

Most recently, Mr. Dang was elected in 2023 to a three-year term (2023–2026) as Secretary of the ABA. That year, he became the first Asian American and the first Hawaii attorney to serve as an ABA officer in the 145-year history of the ABA, which was founded in 1878.

Mr. Dang served on the ABA Board of Governors from 2020 to 2026. At various times, he was a member of the Executive Committee, Member Services Committee, Profession, Public Service and Diversity Committee, and Governance Committee. He was the Board’s liaison to the ABA Standing Committee on Constitution and Bylaws and the Board's liaison to the House of Delegates Rules and Calendar Committee. Separately, he is a current member of the ABA House of Delegates.

As a member of the ABA International Law Section, Mr. Dang has participated in Section conferences and in ABA Day at the United Nations.

Marvin Dang has been a leader in other national associations, including the National Creditors Bar Association (Parliamentarian [an officer position], Director) and The George Washington University Law Alumni Association (President-elect, Director).

In Hawaii, Mr. Dang’s leadership positions include serving as current Director and Immediate Past Chair of the Collection Law Section of the Hawaii State Bar Association; current Director of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association-Hawaii affiliate; current Secretary-Treasurer and former President of the Hawaii Financial Services Association; former Vice Chair and Acting Chair of the Hawaii Mortgage Foreclosure Task Force; and former Vice Chair of the Hawaii Identity Theft Task Force.

Marvin Dang has received numerous national awards, most recently the 2025 Daniel K. Inouye Trailblazer Award from the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA). The award, named for the late United States Senator Daniel K. Inouye, is NAPABA’s lifetime achievement award and highest honor.

Marvin Dang earned his J.D. degree in 1978 from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. He was selected as a member of Phi Delta Phi, an international legal honor society. Mr. Dang served on the staff of the Journal of International Law and Economics.

He received his B.A. degree with distinction from the University of Hawaii in 1974. Mr. Dang majored in political science and was selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a national honor society.

Mr. Dang graduated with honors in 1971 from Punahou School in Honolulu and received his high school diploma.
