Ceremonial Opening of the Legal Year 2020 in Hong Kong 

Members of LAWASIA’s Executive Committee, including the President of LAWASIA, Mr Chunghwan Choi, attended the Ceremonial Opening of the Legal Year 2020 in Hong Kong on 13 January 2020. This year, 58 representatives of 42 law associations from 18 jurisdictions gathered in Hong Kong for the annual event. Speeches were delivered by the Honourable Chief Justice Ma; the Secretary for Justice, Tersesa Cheng; the President of the Law Society of Hong Kong, Melissa Pang; and the Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association, Philip Dykes.

Opening of Law Term - Sydney, Australia

The President of LAWASIA, Mr Chunghwan Choi, travelled to Australia to attend the Opening of Law Term (New South Wales) in Sydney on 5 February 2020. The Honourable T F Bathurst AC, Chief Justice of NSW, presented the opening address on the topic of "Law as a reflection of the 'modern conscience' of society”. The President of the Law Society of NSW, Mr Richard Harvey, also presented an address, during which he acknowledged Mr Choi’s attendance and the special relationship the Law Society of NSW has had with LAWASIA since its inception.

Mr Choi met privately with the Hon Chief Justice TF Bathurst AC during his visit, during which he thanked the Honourable Chief Justice for his contributions as the Chair of LAWASIA’s Judicial Section.
