Protocol for Speaking at LAWASIA Conferences

Join us as a Speaker at our conferences! To participate, please follow the guidelines below:

  1. Become a LAWASIA Member
LAWASIA gives preference to its own members when selecting speakers for conferences. A LAWASIA Membership keeps you informed about upcoming events and provides access to discounted delegate rates (should you wish to just attend.) If you are yet to register, please ensure to become a member at your earliest opportunity. Our fees vary by category and jurisdiction.

  2. Join a LAWASIA Committee
As a member, you are eligible to join any number of our LAWASIA committees, which significantly enhances your chances of being selected as a speaker. Committees are directly involved in shaping our conference agendas. You may browse through our committees and reach out to the Secretariat at lawasia@lawasia.asn.au to express your interest.

  3. Join our Networks
Join the LAWASIA Human Rights Lawyers Network and the LAWASIA Environmental Lawyers Network for building connections and fostering discussions. For those interested in sharing significant developments or speaking at future network events, reach out to the Secretariat at lawasia@lawasia.asn.au to express your interest.

  4. Stay Updated: Save the Date Announcements and Call for Speakers
Keep an eye out for “Save the Date” announcements for LAWASIA events, as these are the first notifications about upcoming conferences. Typically issued 6-7 months before an event, the Call for Speakers provides an opportunity to submit your proposal and express your interest in speaking. Please visit the event pages regularly on the LAWASIA website for details on current events.

  5. Responding to Call for Speakers
When responding to the Call for Speakers, be sure to address all relevant criteria outlined in the submission guidelines, including a 300-word presentation abstract, directly addressing one of the confirmed conference sessions, your speaker credentials (full name and contact details), your biography and any relevant supporting materials such as links to articles, social media accounts, videos or testimonials. Please submit your proposal before the submission deadline.

  6. Missed the Deadline?
Missed the Call for Speakers deadline? Don’t worry! You can still submit your proposal directly to events@lawasia.asn.au or the dedicated conference email. Late submissions may be considered by the Papers Committee, depending on program capacity and available slots. Please ensure your proposal follows the submission guidelines and includes your bio, contact details, and a concise abstract of your presentation.

  7. Proposal Review Process and Conference Format
All speaker proposals are reviewed by the Papers Committee. Please note that all, if not most LAWASIA events require in-person presentations. Be sure to check the event format before submitting your proposal.

  8. Diversity Focus
LAWASIA panels aim to ensure diversity across jurisdictions, gender, and professional backgrounds in their panels. We encourage young lawyers to apply, as we strive to represent voices from all stages of legal careers.

  9. Speaker Acceptance & Confirmation
If your proposal is accepted, the organising committee will contact you. Only successful candidates will be notified. Following this notification, please confirm your participation promptly.

  10. Speaker Registration
Please be advised that all speakers are required to register for the conference and are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Unfortunately, LAWASIA is unable to provide any assistance to cover these costs, including registration and other incidental expenses. However, a discounted registration fee is offered to confirmed speakers and moderators.

  11. Panel Coordination
Once accepted, you will be connected with your panel members and will receive instructions from the panel moderator regarding presentation materials, speaking time, and other event requirements.
