Children’s Rights at School
We are delighted to announce the second edition of the Human Rights Lawyers’ Network Meeting for 2026 –– the 18th Meeting of the LAWASIA Human Rights Lawyers' Network is scheduled for Wednesday, 10th June 2026, online via Zoom. Join us for a session on “Children’s Rights at School.”
Here, we will learn about the intersection of children’s rights and their educational environment — a setting that plays a defining role in shaping children’s development, identity, and lived experiences.
The premise of the session is built on the understanding that children’s fundamental rights must be respected in every dimension of school life. Apart from learning, Schools also shape children’s autonomy, dignity, and participation. However, across jurisdictions, we continue to witness school practices and institutional norms that conflict with these rights.
This session will examine how legal systems address rights infringing practices within schools, from disciplinary measures and daily routines to broader governance policies. By reviewing significant judicial decisions and emerging international standards, the session aims to equip legal professionals with a comparative understanding of how children’s rights can be effectively protected in school settings. Our panel of esteemed speakers from South Korea, Thailand and Australia, will lead the discussion on the topic.
