Mr Khunan Jargalsaikhan

Immediate Past President | Mongolian Bar Association (MONGOLIA)

Mr. Khunan Jargalsaikhan, Master of State and Law Science, is Immediate Past President, acting Board member of the Mongolian Bar Association (MBA). Prior to his election in 2017, he served as Head of Foreign Relations and Cooperation Division of MBA.

Mr. Khunan specializes in human rights and judiciary and began his career at a Judicial Reform Project in 2002 before joining the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia.

In 2007 he was appointed as National Project Manager of UNDP Access to Justice and Human Rights project after which he was also appointed as National Project Manager of UNDP Overcoming Poverty through Legal Empowerment project in 2011 and served until the completion of the project in 2013.

Before joining the Mongolian Bar Association, Mr Khunan worked as National Consultant of Legal Empowerment Project at the Open Society Forum. He has conducted and led numerous research works including research on judicial independence, the appointment of judges, application of international human rights treaties at courts, access to justice, mechanism of legal aid delivery, legal empowerment, and others.

Mr Khunan holds an L.L.M degree from the Eotvos Lorand University of Science, Faculty of State and Law, Hungary. He received an Honor Letter the from Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia and from the Capital City Citizens’ Representative, and a “Human Rights” Honor medal from the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia.  

Mr Khunan was elected to the LAWASIA Executive Committee in 2020.
