Law and Justice Adviser

  24 month contract with potential for extension

 

The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and the Government of Papua New Guinea are seeking a Law and Justice Adviser. The successful person will have expertise in the law and justice sector and extensive experience at senior management levels.

The PNG-Australia Law and Justice Adviser will provide advice and strategic guidance on law and justice issues to the Australian and PNG Governments, including the management and implementation of the PNG-Australia Law and Justice Program (PALJP).

 

PNG is one of Australia’s most important bilateral aid partners. Australia has a strong commitment to supporting Papua New Guinea’s law and justice sector, with assistance of over A$40 million annually. The PNG-Australia Law and Justice Partnership, with a budget of A$30 million annually, supports the PNG Government’s long-term vision of a just, safe and secure society for Papua New Guineans. Objectives include improving functioning of the formal law and justice system, including its links to informal and traditional justice systems, improving sector coordination and resource use, and increasing the focus on crime prevention and restorative justice.

 

Working with AusAID in PNG is challenging and rewarding with the satisfaction of working alongside PNG partners to achieve development goals. PNG is a diverse and exciting country, providing opportunities for recreation, travel and cultural experiences.

  • The term: 1 to 4 years
  • The firm will provide accommodation and meals during working hours as well as a stipend covering day-to-day expenses.
  • Assignments: interacting with our firm’s clients from their home country / region and assist our firm in all efforts and transactions in that geographic area. Such a position could involve substantial work concerning the home country / region as well as travel.


Qualifying criteria

  • Legal and management professionals with 1-2 years experience
  • Language Skills: Must be fluent in English (reading, writing and speaking); Additional linguistic abilities will be favourably considered.
  • Open minded, self-dependant and highly motivated
