LAWASIA Mission to Pakistan

President of LAWASIA, the Law Association for Asia and the Pacific, Mr Mah Weng Kwai of Malaysia, willlead a four person fact-finding mission to Pakistan, with the intent of developing an understanding of issues related to the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and the independence of lawyers and the bar, following the change of government in February 2008.

LAWASIA President’s observer mission report – Nepal constituent assembly elections 10 April 2008

Nepal has been described as a ‘beautiful place with a troubled past’, a neat phrase that describes avery volatile recent political history. Its struggle for democracy has been an intense one and its election day of 10th April 2008 has been described as the dawn of a new era.

Report visit to Fiji by LAWASIA Observer Mission - Issued 16 April 2007

The LAWASIA Executive Committee commissioned a fact-finding mission to Fiji in March under the leadership of the President, Mr Mah Weng Kwai which sought to find out more about the divides amongst the Fiji legal community following the military coup in December last year. At the invitation of its member organisation, the Nepal Bar Association (NBA), LAWASIA mounted an observer mission to Nepal, aimed at verifying serious concerns about the loss of the civil and political rights of Nepali people following the take over by King Gyanendra on 1 February 2005.
