Blog entry about this session at the 22nd LAWASIA Conference held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.  Please feel free to comment, or if you want to add anything: http://www.marketingasia.typepad.com

 As an international organisation of lawyers’ associations and individual lawyers which focuses on the interests and concerns of the legal profession in the Asia Pacific region LAWASIA is most excited to see the launch of a new Law Management Section.

"There is a growing appreciation among lawyers of the importance of properly managing their own affairs that will ensure and improve client service, productivity and profit" says Paul Malliate, the Section’s inaugural chairman.

The aims of the LAWASIA Law Management Section are:

  • To promote increased awareness and understanding of law practice management principles and management best practice throughout the region;

  • To develop a forum for the exchange of law practice management information and expertise;

  • To develop a relationship and to provide a link between law practice management groups and committees of the professional law societies and associations throughout the region.

  • To be a reference point for LAWASIA, for LAWASIA countries, for LAWASIA sections and for LAWASIA members on issues pertaining to law practice management

The President of LAWASIA Glenn Ferguson said the new Section would be launched at the forthcoming LAWASIA Conference in Ho Chi Minh City in November 2009. "We are sure that this positive development will be welcome by all who may have a specific interest in law practice management."

The new Section will host another practice management session at the HCM City Conference. "Given the present downturn in the economy," says Paul Malliate, "lawyers will want to examine the major paradigm shifts and determine how to enhance their overall performance and position for the eventual upturn. Client expectations are always changing, and we as lawyers have to make sure that we respond appropriately to such changes”.
This follows on from the last law practice management session at the LAWASIA Annual Conference in 2008 which was very popular. Paul Malliate pointed out: "The room was practically overflowing with lawyers from a variety of jurisdictions and in all kinds of firms eager to know more in this area. There was a strong consensus that effective management enhances not only the fortunes of law firms, but is required to meet the needs of discerning clients. I am sure the response to our call for members will be strong."

Membership of the Section is open to all financial LAWASIA members and, in the Section’s first year of operation (1 July 2009-30 June 2010), no additional Section fee will be levied.

"LAWASIA membership on its own is always good value," adds President Glenn Ferguson, "and with no Section fee to be added in the start up phase of the Section, we hope to see an enthusiastic response."

We welcome any expressions of interest in joining the Section and these may be emailed to our secretariat at lawasia@lawasia.asn.au   Detail on how to join LAWASIA is available on the website at www.lawasia.asn.au If the secretariat can assist with any enquiries, it will be pleased to do so.
